As children, we learn to see the world in shapes and colour, which we lose and change to suppress our individuality and become constraint and monotonous. I have become more interested in how children paint and draw the word, but I also wanted to add detail which give s the artwork a weirdly Picasso look, contemporary painting. The pose is in the most simplified to its basic forms and shapes, disguising the figure face. And abstract shapes and pattern where the eye has to search for the face, which is where my was inspired. A very intriguing and decorative painting which was also inspired by practising to paint and draw as a child, again was very liberating and quite enjoyable.
The figured is painted in large single bold strokes with bright colours emphasized painterly qualities and strong shapes over the representational or realistic values retained by observation. Brings back memories of children do the funniest things and what they say. Very little colour mixing is done, and pure tube colours are used as would a child. The portraits are much more traditional, but more caricature to suit their fascial expressions and exaggerations of features.
Textured form, shades, light and shape interact and play to add life and movement, complementing the juxtapositions of shape and form.
Thick and lush paint has a unique dimensional abstract quality.
It is surprising how little information is needed for the eye and mind to make up the full picture. Highly pigmented, heavy body acrylic paint, using a creamy thick consistency of Artist viscosity colours unique to Acrylic and not available in oil paints.
